Dog handling tips

Try a brisk walk then stop suddenly: Observe what your dog does. If you are pack leader he/she should look around quickly and then look at you for guidance ...Or if your dog looks away, tries to pull you in any form of direction or heads back towards home then you have not asserted yourself as the dog is pack leader. Go back and have a look at the world around your home. Is your home full of people doing what the hell they like.. remember rules and limits.

Tug games: Can be fun but need to be won by the leader, otherwise the dogs wins. Tug games will not make a dog mean or vicious, so long as you have set the terms of this game.YOU WIN every time. Throwing a ball is fun but it can be a negative action by sending the dog into prey drive, depending on breed which can backfire on you when your dog sights a small moving object and gives chase. Effectively you have just taught it to case a moving object. Call me to train you how to avoid this happening in public 0431 HOUNDS

G'day thanks for the ball chasing advice but I do flyball with 2 cocker spaniels and chasing a ball is what needs to be done and a tug toy is the reward But I'am not sure of the prey dive and how can it backfire? regards andrew
