Blaxland girl comes first in the world

03 Feb, 2010 04:13 PM
NOT many can say it, but Blaxland's Hannah Grant-Nilon is sitting on top of the world.

The 18-year-old attained a perfect International Baccalaureate (IB) result of 45, equal to an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95, placing her equal top of the country and the world.

When asked about the fantastic result, the modest teenager said: ``I was excited, I suppose.''

``At the end of the day, it's just a number.''

But a perfect number at that.

The former St Paul's Grammar School student said she was surprised when she finally found out her result.

She now plans to study dentistry at either Charles Sturt University in NSW or at a university in Queensland.

``I'd like to thank my teachers at St Paul's as well as my family,'' she said.

From the 120 students in the St Paul's graduating class of 2009, 10 scored ATARs above 99 and 42 scored ATARs above 90.
