The Penrith Symphony Orchestra's 2010 season opens
with Culminations, presenting the final works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Australian composer Richard Meale.
The Emperor Concerto, voted number 1 in the ABC Classi
cal 100 series is Beethoven's final concerto and Daniel
Herscovitch's (pictured) performance of the work will
enthrall the audience.
Beethoven's story is one of personal triumph over the tragedy of his deafness and his works of genius have often been called the culmination of the classical era. Symphony No 6, the final work of Tchaikovsky, with ravishing melody and brilliant orchestration, marks the
culmination of his difficult life story.
Cantilena Pacifica by Richard Meale, who died last year,
is an evocative work for solo violin and string orchestra
and will feature Antonia Todorova, concert master of
the PSO as the soloist.
Details: 8pm, Saturday March 20, at the Joan Sutherland Centre, www.pso.org.au or call 1300 789 118.
