``IT'S got air-conditioning, a flatscreen TV and Foxtel.'' These are the small details of an $11million hospital redevelopment that patient Anthony Francis really appreciates.
The 30-year-old Penrith resident, left partially paralysed after a cerebral aneurysm last September, is enjoying the new North Block of Nepean Hospital.
The refurbished wing dedicated to aged care, stroke and rehabilitation patients was opened last Friday by Premier Nathan Rees and Penrith MP Karyn Paluzzano.
Mr Rees said the building of the new wing supported 550 jobs.
Besides the luxury of pay TV, the new facility also includes a 20-bed ward for rehabilitation patients, a 26-bed acute aged care unit, and a 23-bed ward for stroke and Older Persons Evaluation Review and Assessment patients.
It also has a therapy unit with two gym areas, treatment and consulting rooms with kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
Rehabilitation ward nursing unit manager Anne Vevers said patients and staff have been settling in for the past two weeks after 13 months at Governor Phillip Nursing Home. They especially like the natural light from the tall windows overlooking trees and greenery.
``It's a nice bright ward and the patients are very happy here,'' she said. `` We will also be putting in an Nintendo Wii game console in the activity room for therapy.''
