THE Miss Penrith competition was a success at the weir celebrating Penrith's 50th-year celebrations on Sunday.
In lovely weather, queen of etiquette June Dally-Watkins judged constants for the Miss Penrith and Miss Junior Penrith competitions.
Poise, character, smile, speaking abilities and personality were the main criteria.
``I loved it,'' Dally-Watkins said.
``I thought it was sensational.
``The girls are so keen to be successful.''
Miss Penrith went to Laura Archibald, 17, of Glenmore Park.
The Penrith Christian School student was a semi-finalist in Miss Teen Australia earlier this year.
``Miss Dally-Watkins said I had really great poise, height and characteristics that agencies would be looking for,'' she said.
``I'm hoping to go to university and study business, and also pursue modelling as a sideline.''
Miss Junior Penrith went to Alyssa Jade Licastro, 10, from Glenmore Park.
It was Alyssa's first modelling competition.
Dally-Watkins said she was ``really cute'' and had the potential to get a lot of commercial work.
Both girls will receive a June Dally-Watkins one-week modelling course.
The only concern that Dally-Watkins had was that no boys entered in the Mr Penrith section.
She said she has been invited back next year and hopes boys will enter to take her up on a free modelling and etiquette course.
