MARK Gould, of Winmalee, has been collecting vinyl 45-rpm records ever since he was a child now he has one of the largest private record collections in the world, totalling 84,000 tracks.
``My father bought my first record for my birthday in 1957,'' Mr Gould said.
``It was Just Born To Be Your Baby by Perry Como. He also bought me an Astor Playgram a portable turntable but it was enough for an intense interest in pop music for life.
``I quickly became a student of rock'n'roll and developed a photographic memory for record labels, song titles and flip-sides. I wanted to share my collection with others and that's why I decided to do a community radio show.''
In 1983, he began a radio-request program which took off to such an extent he has been on air ever since.
His Rock and Roll Party Show can be heard every Saturday night, from 7pm to 10pm, on Penrith's community radio station, WOW-FM 100.7.
Mr Gould targets Baby Boomers with requests, feature spots, nostalgic trivia and weekly prizes such as CDs, DVDs and open orders from local sponsors.
``Baby Boomers are generally seen as those born from 1946 to 1964 and the music they grew up with is not heard enough on the big commercial stations.''
Mr Gould has interviewed Col Joye, Bryan Davies, Lonnie Lee, Johnny Rebb, Dinah Lee, Little Pattie, Normie Rowe, Digger Revell, Warren Williams, Johnny Devlin, Frank Ifield, Tommy Sands and the late Guy Mitchell.
Listeners can request any ``golden oldie'' and Mr Gould will play it during his show.
He has also set up his own website, which lists thousands of classics available for request on his program.
