THE announcement on Monday of the new fare structure MyZone, which will reward frequent commuters and those who travel longer distances, was seen as a win for greater western Sydney commuters.
The new structure will apply across the rail, bus and
ferries networks, with more than 90 per cent of fares
remaining the same or dropping in cost with an increase in cost for about six per cent of journeys.
So, where a weekly ticket from Penrith to Circular Quay
currently costs $54, the new MyTrain ticket will cost will
cost $47 a saving of $364 a year.
But there are greater savings to be had over at Camden, a weekly bus and train ticket to Town Hall will
cost $26.40 less.
The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) welcomed the new system.
``For the people of western Sydney, who depend so
much on private buses, the single ticket integration with public buses is a welcome and long overdue improvement,'' said president Alison McLaren in a state
ment.
