Your say in $48 million shopping plan

28 Oct, 2009 12:32 PM
GLENMORE Park residents are being encouraged to have

their say on a proposed $48 million expansion of their

town centre.

The owners of the shopping centre, AMP Capital, have

recently lodged a development application for a major

upgrade, with community consultation to start shortly.

After calls from Penrith City Councillor Prue Guillaume, a public meeting will be held as part of the consultation.

Cr Guillaume encouraged Glenmore Park residents to

attend the meeting and have their say on what they want their shopping centre to look like.

``I just want to make sure the community's voice is heard,'' she said.

If our vox pop of Glenmore Park shoppers is any indication, residents would like to see better car parking

and greater variety.

Cr Guillaume said she knew some residents were concerned about a lack of choice.

While the owner hadn't released details of actual stores

proposed, she said, they had indicated including another

``mini-major''.

She said the proposal included a mini-major on the undeveloped land adjacent to the car park, a walkway

lined by specialty shops and underground car parking.

As detailed in a recent council report, the owners have

lodged a request to ammend the current development

control plan (DCP) for the town centre, which provides a

statutory and design framework.

As the report stated, the current DCP had been an evolving document, responding to the growth and changing demands of the community.

The community consultation process for the public

exhibition of the draft ammendment to the DCP and the

development application will occur concurrently, the

report said.

The date and venue for the meeting will be advertised widely within Glenmore Park.

While the council will carry out the consultation, the

development application will be determined by the Joint

Regional Planning Panel.
