PENRITH will chase a competitive score in the Sydney grade cricket competition at Rosedale Oval this Saturday.

Fairfield-Liverpoo l were cruising towards a massive total at 5-278 before a lower order collapse saw the hosts bowled out for 292.

Patrick Jackson and Max McNamara were the best of the bowlers with four and three wickets respectively.

It was a a good day for second grade at Howell Oval, where they posted 323.

Joshua Clarke fell an agonising one run short of his century and Matthew Cummins (38), Shannon Finemore (36), Tim Sutton (34), Patrick Cummins (33) and Peter Betros (31 not out) made solid contributions.

Third grade need a miraculous bowling performance to win their match, after they were bowled out for 146.

Ben Betros (35) and Wayne Stewart (32) were the pick of the batsmen.

Fourth grade also need to bring their A grade fielding game to Cook Park, St Marys.

The hosts were bowled out for 194, where Brett Chandler (62) and Steven Farrell (40) were best with the bat.

Fifth grade are off to a shaky start in their run chase of 200 at 1-25 at stumps.

Michael Harding (3-56) and Martin Pope (2-42) were the best of the bowlers.

Play resumes against the Lions at 10.30am for firsts and seconds, and at 12.30pm for other grades.

First grade narrowly missed out on a Twenty20 final berth in their semi-final against Manly Warringah at Blacktown Olympic Park last Tuesday.

Penrith fell one run short chasing 103.

Peter Betros top-scored with 24 off 31 balls, while bowlers Ryan Smith and Joshua Clarke each grabbed three wicket hauls.
