PENRITH Nepean United centre-back Matthew Liddall has added to an extremely successful year.
After starting the season in the under20s squad, he was quickly promoted to the first team by PNU coach Ian Gillan.
It appears Gillan was not the only person impressed by the Penrith youngster.
Laurie McKinna, coach of the Hyundai A-League team Central Coast Mariners, has also shown an interest in Liddall and his defensive work for the Penrith-based club.
McKinna has signed Liddall for the Central Coast Mariners' under20s team, opening a new chapter in Liddall's playing career.
``He is composed, strong and quick and will be an asset to their youth team,'' Gillan said.
After a successful trial organised by George Lazarou at Penrith Nepean United, he was contacted and signed the following day.
Liddall, who played his junior football with Penrith Football Club and Penrith Panthers, has established himself as a strong and agile defender.
He returned to Penrith Nepean United last year after playing for NSW Premier League teams Bankstown City Lions and Marconi.
``We have concentrated on providing opportunities for talented local footballers, and with the establishment of our academy program, we can ensure we will support local juniors in their football journey,'' Lazarou said.
Liddall will start training with the AFC Championship League team soon and is eager to please his new club, following a similar journey to fellow Nepean football juniors Ivan Nicevski (Sydney FC) and Mark Schwarzer (Fulham).
