WITH a true birds-eye view, the idea of jumping out a plane terrifies most people, but skydiver Philippe Andre (pictured) has never met anyone who regrets doing it.
Philippe, 40, is a skydiving instructor with Simply Skydive.
Each weekend he performs tandem jumps over Penrith and the Blue Mountains to land about four kilometres below at the Regatta Centre.
Having taken the plunge more than 2200 times in his 12-year career, he still gets thrilled doing every jump.
``After my first jump, I got addicted and I still get a buzz,'' he said.
``The most exciting part is taking people for their first jump.
``It's a big thrill and the more excited they are, the more excited I am.''
And having skydived across Australia, Switzerland, the US, Holland and Sri Lanka, he said Penrith residents can boast some of the world's most breath-taking scenery.
``My favourite place is over Penrith and the Blue Mountains,'' he said.
``The views are pretty amazing.
``It's in the same league as the Alps in Switzerland.''
He can perform up to 40 jumps a week and said one of the most rewarding parts to his job was when people conquer fears.
``A lot of people are really scared and think they can't achieve it,'' he said.
``When we are in the plane, they can get very nervous. We try to distract them with jokes until it's time to jump.
``When they do, their brain shuts off and people tend to experience a sensory overload.
``They feel total fear, scream and can't believe it.
``But after five or ten seconds they enjoy it and every day I hear people say it's the best thing they've ever done.''
He said it was hard to describe what it felt like to skydive, as each was different.
``I once jumped with a lady who was deaf and blind,'' he said.
``I also had a couple who came to jump the guy was macho and was sure it'd be easy.
``The girl was scared out of her mind.
``After the jump he was kissing the ground and she went on to become a skydiving instructor,'' he laughed.
Philippe said sky-diving freed one from stress and worries.
``It clears the mind,'' he said.
``You're only thinking about what you're doing and absorbing the views.''
