SPRINGWOOD handballer Aminta ``Milly'' Thomas featured prominently in Australia's capture of the 2009
Pacific Cup senior women's handball tournament in Brisbane recently.
Left wing-centre back Milly scored 20 goals in six games, including a remarkable five goals in the final against the New Zealand Handball Federation, won by Australia 29-15.
She finished third highest scorer in the Australian women's team and ninth among the top ten goal scorers
of the tournament.
The Pacific Cup served as a qualifier for the Women's World championships in China at the end of this year.
Milly followed up her winning performance by joining the NSW under-21 team at the National Junior Handball championships, also in Brisbane, and again helped the team capture the title.
Milly turns 19 in October, and has already enjoyed playing at international level.
She was a member of Australia's senior women's handball team at the Women's World Championship in France in December 2007. She was also a member of the Australian team at the Junior Women's World Championship in Macedonia in July 2008.
Older brother Michael and younger brother Joey had introduced Milly to handball not long before.
Michael represented Australia at the World Men's Handball Championships in Germany in 2007 and in
Croatia this year, while Joey plays with the NSW men's under-21 team.
The 2009 Pacific Cup women's handball championships comprised four teams: Handball New Zealand, Queensland, the New Zealand Handball Federation, and Australian Senior Women's team. New Caledonia had
withdrawn earlier.
