Tasty treats a piece of cake

Cupcakes — small, fun and delicious — are the perfect treat.

And for Penrith local, Robyn Kovacs there is nothing more satisfying than creating the perfect cupcake.

"My Nan was always baking when we were younger and cupcakes was one of my favourite things to make with her," Ms Kovacs said.

"As I grew older my passion for baking, which she planted in me, grew more and more."

As a mum, Ms Kovacs started creating her fabulous cupcakes for schools and day-care centres, and from there she became more adventurous with her cute little cakes and started a business of her own — Nanna's Cupcakes.

"I find there's something really happy about cupcakes," Ms Kovacs said. "Whenever you see a cupcake you can't not smile and want to eat it."

"My favourite to make is vanilla, I love the simplicity and flavour of a good vanilla cake, but it's all about the icing on a cupcake, and nearly all my cakes are covered in a Swiss meringue butter cream, which is the silkiest smoothest icing you will ever taste. I also make rich chocolate, red velvet, coconut, orange and poppyseed, jaffa. If you mention a flavour I have probably made it."

Ms Kovacs said that customers were always delighted by the taste of her creative creations.

"I pride myself on not just creating a good looking cake but a tasty one too. I have often received comments that people can't find cakes that not only look good, but taste good too," Ms Kovacs said.

"I made cupcakes in an icecream cone at the request of my favourite customer, my five-year-old daughter for her birthday. They were lots of fun to make."

With the customer always in mind, Ms Kovacs hopes her cakes will always bring a smile to their faces.

"It's my aim to make a cake that meets customers' expectations and always deliver it with a smile on my face, regardless of any kitchen disasters," she said.
