Bard's romp
At just 21, Blue Mountains resident Joe Dicker enticed his dancer wife, Carol, to travel to Vietnam in a rock band to entertain American troops during the Vietnam War. They sang and danced for 18 months.
"Memories of being evacuated from a base at the end of our final song to waiting helicopters, packing equipment quickly, then watching from the air as the base — including the troops we had just performed to — was blown to smithereens," Joe said.
Directed by Carol, Shakespeare's romp The Taming of the Shrew cast includes father Joe, daughter Sam and both grandchildren.
Details: Joan Sutherland Centre, March 8-9.
