THE Penrith Business Enterprise Centre has won a state government contract for online technology and has employed a new business adviser to help clients.
"We are proud to have been awarded the contract by the state government once again," executive officer John Todd said.
"The centre [will] continue to service small businesses in Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury through to June 2015."
The contract was part of the government's Small Biz Connect Program.
BEC's new business adviser, Roger Blane, started work on Monday.
"I used to be a bank manager for Westpac," Mr Blane said.
"I started with them, when it was the Bank of NSW, in Penrith in 1971.
"I went through a lot of different positions with the bank until I left last June."
He originally lived in Penrith and has since moved to Blaxland.
"For the past 25 years I've been a business banker," Mr Blane said.
"I've worked with businesses in lots of different areas and regions; in Sydney and on the north coast.
"Through my experience I've got to know all about how different government agencies work."
He said the most rewarding part of his career was advising and working with people to help their businesses grow.
"That's why I was so excited about taking on this new role with BEC," he said.
Mr Todd said he was as keen as his new adviser.
The new online package would help them do their jobs.
"With this new technology, we're going to be able to diagnose businesses more thoroughly," Mr Todd said.
"Our advisers will [be able to] analyse clients' situations in an easy way to create simple action plans to help them make informed decisions."
